Simple Swedish Podcast
Here I will post swedish music recommendations from me. I personally think that music is a good way of learning since it's fun and a song has a message, tells a story. So it's more engaging. Of course all these artists have lyrics in swedish, and I'll try to get a diversity. --- POP/SINGER&SONGWRITER Veronica Maggio - One of my favourites right now. Quite easy listened pop music. Nice lyrics and melodies, and I like her voice plus she's pretty sexy. One of her most popular songs is "Jag kommer" which means "I'm coming". And yeah, it has a double meaning.. Also listen to "Sju sorger", "Satan i gatan" and "17 år". Kent - Famous for writing sad and unusual lyrics, and the music is kind of rock-pop-emo, I don't know. Personally I don't really get their lyrics, but they are beautiful still. Some of my favourite songs are "Mannen i den vita hatten", "Döda vinkeln" and "Klåparen". Daniel Adams-Ray - Don't know why I haven't posted this guy before. One of my favourite artists with swedish lyrics. It's just nice pop music. I like "Svart", "Gubben i Lådan" and "Lilla lady". Oskar Linnros - Similar to Daniel Adams-Ray. Most popular song: "Från och med du". Håkan Hellström - This guy is from Gothenburg and has been very successful for many years. It's pop music, and he's got his own style. Listen to "Kom igen Lena", "Känn ingen sorg för mig Göteborg", "Nu kan du få mig så lätt", "Ramlar", "Hurricane Gilbert". If you wanna listen to swedish music, this is a good example. Laleh - Very original Iranian-Swedish singer/songwriter artist. She has made some wonderful songs. Some good ones with swedish lyrics are: "Snö", "Bjurö Klubb", "Just nu", "Storebror". Lots of people love her but her music is strange. Melissa Horn - Nice singer/songwriter stuff. Linnea Henriksson - New girl. Pop music, her only swedish song so far is Väldigt kär/Obegripligt ensam, but it made a big hit here. Eric Amarillo - This year he had a big hit with the song "Om sanningen ska fram". Quite controversial lyrics. Haha. Abba - Do I have to say anything? But maybe people don't know that they've made some songs with swedish lyrics. There are swedish versions of "Ring Ring", "Fernando", "SOS" and some more. Den Svenska Björnstammen - Really good new act. One of my favourite songs overall right now is "Svalkar Vinden". Another awesome one is "Vart jag mig i världen vänder". It's pop music, feels quite swedish. Lots of harmonies. --- ROCK/PUNK/METAL Dungen - I have actually almost only listened to the song "Panda", but that's a really nice song. It's like old swedish prog rock. Dia Psalma - I don't really listen to these guys anymore, but would maybe be interesting to some. It's like punk rock with violin. Soilwork - "Kvicksilver" - This is just one song, because they just made one song in swedish. But it's the only melodic death metal I know that is in swedish. Awesome band. Opeth - "Den ständiga resan" - One of my favourite bands. Very diverse music with a base on metal. And this is the only song with swedish lyrics. Should be more metal with swedish lyrics! Raubtier -Well beause I just wrote that there should be more metal with swedish lyrics, I have to put this band down here. Because this is exactly what it is. Although I don't think it's very good. A bit comical even. Sounds a bit like Rammstein. Finntroll -Aaaawesome band, it's like folk metal. And they are actually "singing" in swedish too. But reeeeally don't read their lyrics if you wanna improve you swedish because these guys are from finland, and they have bad grammar and spelling, haha. Lillasyster - Name means little sister, and we'll continue on the hard track. This is more like hardcore though. Kinda like pop music in metal clothes. Most songs are in swedish, but they have also made a cover on Rihanna's "Umbrella", pretty good actually! Lok - More hardcore. I actually think that Lillasyster is made up from a couple of Lok members. I think Lok is pretty cool. Listen to "Lok står när de andra faller", "Skrubbsår" and "Hur många grisar är vi nu?". --- HIPHOP/REGGAE/RNB Movits - Just started to listen to this group. Don't know what to call the genre, like hip hop with sax. Really cool. "Fel del av gården". Kapten Röd - Reggae music in swedish! Most of it is good, but listen especially to "Stjärnorna finns här" and "1 000 000 nollor". Also "Ju mer dom spottar". Snook - HipHop duo with the two previous guys. They split up to make their own carreers. Their first hit was "Mister Cool". Everyone loved this song. Also listen to "Kommer ifrån", "Längst fram i taxin" and "17 Juni". Petter - Very successful swedish HipHop artist. Very good song featuring September: "Baksmälla". Other nice songs: "Det går bra nu", "Fredrik Snortare och Cecilia Synd". His first hit "Mirkofonkåt" ("Microphone-horny"), also exists with September, pretty good! Mange Schmidt - Similar to Petter. Listen to "Giftig" and "Glassigt". Timbuktu - So we're continuing on the HipHop track with Timbuktu, very successful guy. Biggest hit was "Alla vill till stjärnorna men ingen vill dö". Really awesome. Also listen to "Resten av ditt liv" and "The botten is nådd". Cool thing about this guy is that he raps/sings in Skåne accent. Maskinen - My favourite song is "Krossa Alla Fönster". Really nice one. Newkid - I think he's quite, yeah, new. Anyway, listen to "Jag gråter bara i regnet" (I just cry in the rain), pretty nice. That song is mostly pop, but he seems like more of an RNB guy. --- VISA/JAZZ Povel Ramel - Listen to this guy if you like jazz and comical music. Probably a pretty bad choice if you wanna learn from the lyrics though, as a lot of them are pretty old fashioned, and even I don't understand some of the words. But they're still very cool ;p Lots of cool chord shifts. Listen to "Håll musiken igång", "Underbart är kort", "Var är tvålen", and "Följ mig bortåt vägen". Lars Winnerbäck - Really popular guy, plays pop I guess, with a lot of folk influence. One of my favourites is "Elegi". Lisa Ekdahl - For people who like more jazzy stuff. Nice voice and nice jazzy songs. Listen to "Vem vet" and "Benen i kors". Cornelis Vreeswijk - Classic stuff. It's the genre "visa" and I don't know how to translate it. On Spotify it says "ballad". But I'd say it's more folk. Very classical songs are "Somliga går i trasiga skor", "Balladen om herr Fredrik Åkare och den söta fröken Cecilia Lind", "Brev från Kolonien" and "Hönan Agda". But the first two especially, since the other two are more focused on funny lyrics. --- FJORTISDUNK - (this is what cheesy swedish party music is called, with the most famous one first:) Basshunter - "Boten Anna" - Most people have heard this song. He also re-wrote it with normal lyrics and called it "Now you're gone". Kobojsarna - "Sång om ingenting" - This is a song that followed the same spirit as previous, and many followed with various success. DJ Pish - "Tjena tjena årets solbränna" - Not very famous but I have to have it here, haha. It's nice. I'll update with more! And feel free to make requests on translation!
